Botox is not the only neuromodulator on the market. While not quite as popular, other neuromodulators such as Dysport may also be effective for patients. And Botox won’t work on any and all wrinkles. Botox and other neuromodulators work best on wrinkles that are caused by tension in the muscles just beneath the surface of the skin, such as concentration lines or frown lines.
Results from neuromodulator injections will typically last anywhere between 4-6 months.
How Do I Get Started on my Botox Injections?
The first step in undergoing Botox injections is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie. During your consultation, you’ll discuss your desired final results as well as your medical history, to ensure no allergies to neuromodulators are present.

Candidates for Botox are usually looking to minimize specific areas of wrinkles around the face. Botox provides an enticing way to do that, as the procedure is both quick and easy to accomplish. Additionally, many patients enjoy the fact that Botox yields only temporary results, allowing them to “test drive” the procedure before committing to something more permanent (or to maintenance injections).

Botox procedures are performed at our Chicago office by Dr. Ogilvie. Anesthesia is generally not required, though in some cases a topical numbing agent might be used for patients who are particularly sensitive.
Most Botox injections are intended to eliminate specific areas of wrinkles. Once those areas of wrinkles are identified, Dr. Ogilvie will make the appropriate injections. The process of injections will typically take less than 15 minutes–meaning, in most cases, patients are at Dr. Ogilvie’s office for thirty minutes or less.
Some slight bruising may occur after Botox injections. There are typically no restrictions after undergoing Botox injections. Neuromodulators start to take effect around 48 hours, although peak effect usually takes up to 2 weeks.
Those results typically include subtle but noticeable improvements in the lines and wrinkles around the face. Generally, the face itself will look more youthful and energetic, and the deepest lines and wrinkles will look diminished or completely resolved. Results will begin to wane after four months, so many patients will opt to receive regular maintenance injections in order to keep those wrinkles at bay.
