Neck and Chin
Neck and Chin
When patients feel uncomfortable with the way their neck and chin appear, they might consider neck and chin liposuction by Dr. Ogilvie. Fat may occur or collect around the neck and chin for a variety of reasons. But these areas of fat, in particular, may be difficult to mitigate naturally through diet and exercise.
Neck and chin liposuction procedures are designed to eliminate those unwanted areas of fat in a way that highlights your natural contours. The benefit of this approach is that your liposuction results will blend in with the rest of your features rather seamlessly. You won’t look as though you’ve undergone surgery–you’ll just look like you’ve lost weight.
If you think your aesthetics or appearance would benefit from a neck or chin liposuction procedure, the first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie at his Chicago office.
How Do I Get Started on my Neck and Chin Liposuction?
During your consultation, you will be able to thoroughly discuss your desired results from any neck and chin liposuction procedure.
Dr. Ogilvie will also be able to determine whether your unique physiology will be better served by neck liposuction, chin liposuction, or a combination of the two. To schedule a consultation, contact our Chicago area office.
Generally speaking, individuals who are looking to eliminate neck and chin fat do so because traditional fat mitigation techniques, such as diet and exercise, have failed to work. That’s because fat has a tendency to stubbornly cling to some areas of the body, despite your best efforts to eliminate it.
These stubborn areas of fat will generally not respond to diet or exercise, and so they make excellent targets for liposuction procedures.
There are numerous reasons why patients might want to eliminate fat from around the neck and chin. In many cases, patients feel as though fat around these areas may make them look older or less attractive than they feel. In some cases, patients may want only chin or neck liposuction, or a combination of both.
In most cases, good candidates for neck and chin liposuction will:
- Be able to maintain a relatively stable weight.
- Want to eliminate specific areas of fat from the neck, chin, or lower jaw.
- Want results to contour the natural shapes of your chin, jawline, and neck.
- Be generally healthy enough for surgery.
- Have a realistic idea of what to expect from results.

Chin and neck liposuction may be performed concurrently or as separate procedures. Simply because a patient undergoes one does not necessarily mean the patient must undergo the other. However, the two procedures usually complement each other, producing results that make the patient appear more youthful and fit.
As performed by Dr. Ogilvie in Chicago, chin and neck liposuction procedures generally follow a similar pathway:
Anesthesia — Chin and neck liposuction procedures may be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia (often with a sedative), depending on the comfort of the patient.
Incision — As with most other liposuction procedures, incisions for chin and neck liposuction are remarkably small. In most cases, incisions will measure only a couple of centimeters in length.
Suction — Once the incisions are made, a small tube called a cannula is inserted. This cannula is then moved back and forth in order to suction out unwanted areas of fat. Modern liposuction techniques provide Dr. Ogilvie with a significant amount of control and finesse, meaning results are often quite natural looking.
Incisions will heal quickly. The principle issue patients will need to contend with during recovery is swelling. Dr. Ogilvie will give patients detailed and personalized instructions on how to keep swelling under control after the procedure. Once swelling subsides, patients will be able to see and appreciate the significant weight loss changes in the chin and neck.
