  • Who is a Good Candidate for Hand Rejuvenation?

Hand rejuvenation can be used to address signs of aging in a variety of ways. After all, aging will manifest in unique ways depending on the patient, so hand rejuvenation approaches are tailored to the physiology and desired outcome of each individual patient.

Depending on the nature of the signs of aging that are present on your hands, there may be both surgical and non surgical hand rejuvenation options for patients. Surgical options will usually involve a fat transfer or fat grafting, meaning good hand rejuvenation candidates would have a sufficient amount of body fat to support the use of donor material.

If you think a hand rejuvenation procedure might be a good fit for your desired outcome, contact Dr. Ogilvie to schedule a confidential consultation.

  • Is Hand Rejuvenation Right For Me?

Most hand rejuvenation patients will:

  • Have a significant amount of wrinkles and lines around the hands.
  • Have excessively thin skin on the back of the hands (this usually tends to show features of the physiology of the hand, such as blood vessels or tendons).
  • Notice a significant presence of age spots or other discoloration of the hands.
  • Be generally healthy enough for surgery.
  • Have realistic expectations about what hand rejuvenation can accomplish for you.
  • Hand Rejuvenation with Fat Transfer

Hand rejuvenation procedures can be either surgical or non surgical in nature. Surgical hand rejuvenation, involving liposuction, is performed on an outpatient basis. Non surgical hand rejuvenation, involving the use of dermal fillers or lasers, may be performed in our Chicago area office.

Hand Rejuvenation with Fat Transfer: A fat transfer is designed to make the skin of the hands appear thicker, smoother, and more youthful. A fat transfer uses liposuction to collect donor material. Recovery from liposuction can take several weeks, on account of swelling. Once swelling subsides, patients will notice that they look slimmer in one area and that their hands look more radiant and youthful. Results from a fat transfer hand rejuvenation are effectively permanent.

  • Hand Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers

Hand Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers: Non surgical hand rejuvenation relies on the use of dermal filler injections in order to accomplish similar results. The filler increases the volume beneath the skin of the hands–this simultaneously eliminates wrinkles and makes the skin appear thicker, fuller, and healthier. Results from fillers will typically last anywhere between 12 and 18 months, depending on the brand of filler. There is, however, no down time associated with filler injections and normal activity can usually be resumed immediately.
